The "Words Matter" Pledge

I pledge my commitment to the "Words Matter" Campaign initiated by the Center for Addiction Medicine (CAM) at Denver Health. Recognizing the significance of using clinically accurate and person-first language, I hereby pledge to:

Choose my Words Thoughtfully: Use language that respects the dignity and humanity of people with substance use disorders.
Embrace Person-First Language: Prioritize describing people before their condition, reinforcing their identity beyond their challenges.
Educate Others: Share knowledge about the impact of language on stigma and contribute to a culture of understanding.
Promote Inclusivity: Foster an environment that values every person, regardless of their journey with substance use.
Listen Empathetically: Approach conversations with empathy, recognizing the unique experiences and struggles of others.
